“Finding the right work is like discovering your own soul in the world” Sir Thomas More
The aim of the Right Career Programme
The Right Career Programme is an in-depth process that takes clients on a journey of discovery about who they are, what they have to offer, what careers options they have and what careers they are suited to. The final stage, involves putting a Career Action Plan in place for achieving their career objectives.
By the end of the programme you will:
- Know yourself better having explored what your skills, aptitudes, talents, values, interests and passions are
- Have discovered what you want from your career and what your options are
- And have a Career Action Plan in place mapping out how you are going to realistically achieve the next steps towards your career objectives.
Format
The journey begins with an initial consultation between the interested party and career coach to assess whether the programme will match the individual’s needs. In addition the consultation gives the person an opportunity to meet the career coach and make sure they are comfortable in working together.
Stage 1: Who am I?
On deciding to join the programme stage 1 of the programme, “Who am I”, will commence and the client will be invited to complete some exercises and questionnaires to help build a picture of who they are in terms of their skills, aptitudes, talents, values, passions and interests. These exercises and questionnaires are conducted as home assignments and the insights and learnings are distilled during an hour long face-to-face session with the careers coach. At the end of this session the client will be able to put together a summary on who they are and what they have to offer.
Stage 2: What do I want?
The “What do I want?” stage begins with an Ideas Workshop. The workshop is held with up to 9 other clients who are all at the same stage in the programme. During the workshop a brainstorming exercise is conducted that gives each client the opportunity to get input on possible careers options he or she should consider from the other clients. The diversity of the people in the brainstorm (e.g. different backgrounds, experience, life-stage, ethnicity etc) produces different perspectives that invariably results in new career ideas, not previously considered by the client, coming to the surface.
The ideas from the brainstorm are fed into the Ideas and Options assignment. The next home assignments, in this stage, is an exercise assessing the client’s essential and not so essential needs from a career. These needs are then cross-analysed against the career Ideas and Options. The resulting filtering process provides a good indication of careers ideas that are most suited to the client. Again the insights and learnings are distilled and reflected upon in a 1-2-1 session with the career coach. After which a summary of “what do I want?” is possible.
Stage 3: Making it happen
The third and final stage of the Right Career Programme is “Making it happen”. This where the client draws on all their new found knowledge, insights and learnings and asks themselves the question “so what I’m I going to do about it then?” And in so doing, creates a realistic Action Plan to achieve their career goals. This process is supported with a 1-2-1 telephone completion call with the career coach.

Testimonials
“The course helped me to take an objective view of my skills and how I could stretch. You get as much out of the sessions as you put in, so I’d recommend it to people who are really committed to finding an alternative career, and ready for change, and are ready to approach the options available to them with an open mind. It’s a great way of discovering how far you can potentially stretch (and how far you’re willing to stretch), so you certainly learn a lot about yourself. I enjoyed the group sessions as reflecting on others also helps you to reflect on yourself. The one on one sessions were also very useful and helped me to set a couple of short term goals, and helped me to understand how best to shoot for and keep to these goals”. Emma
“The programme really opened my eyes to the possibilities that are available to me. I learnt so much about myself and this has helped me to shape my career. I also found the information useful for my CV and particularly it gave me confidence in interviews”. Ian
“I’m glad I made the leap into the busier and political institutional world of asset management – achieved with your help. Now markets have settled it’s going well as have launched 2 new investment products – £46m in a Brazil product and £104m into a Global Emerging market income product. To boot I have just won the JPM Asset Management European Sales person of the year.” Ollie
